Do your New Years Resolutions reflect what you really want?

New Years Resolutions -we’ve all been there.  In fact, every year we spend a fleeting second there on 31st December each year around 10.30pm in a slightly tipsy and disoriented state, during a fleeting moment of ‘there’s got to be more to life than this’.  So we go to the common and socially accepted ideals of ‘drink less, get fit, lose weight, call my parents more…’

All of a sudden it’s now February, you’re still recovering from Australia Day drinks, lamingtons and BBQ’s.  Your Mum is still leaving passive aggressive messages in your voicemail inbox about ‘it wouldn’t hurt to pick up the phone and call once in a while…’, and even the ‘January was a test run, I’ll start again in February’ has surpassed us, as we’re now well into the swing of the common theme that will now stick with us until the next time 31st December rolls around – ‘I’ll start again on Monday’.

 

 

But it’s done now, and feeling guilty about it will only make you feel even more yuck, so let’s just go on another little journey for a minute.  If you were your own high performance coach, would it be possible that the advice that you would give yourself might include getting some relevant and real guidance to take you from where you’re at right now to where you want to go?  Someone who understands and respects you to assist in developing your very own specific goals, meaningful to you, measurable and achievable, realistic  for you and your life, with an actual date that we could totally achieve them by together?

By doing this, would it be totally possible that casual promises to yourself that you’re under no obligation to fulfil, become the thing that gets you jumping out of bed in the morning, excited to achieve and pumped to be alive?  Ok, well maybe not on Mondays – we’ll start steady.
